Ethical Photography

As a global leader traveling aboard, it is impotant that we understand ethics in photography. It’s crucial that our photos do not negatively contribute to already existing power dynamics. We want our photos to empower these countries, not degrade or disrespect them.

Please consider following questions before taking pictures:

1. Are my intentions for this photograph only about myself?

2. Does this photo represent a stereotype of people from this country?

3. If a tourist in my home country took a photo of me in this same situation, would it make me uncomfortable?

4. Do the photos represent people with dignity?

5. Have I built a relationship with the person I’m photographing?

6. Have I asked permission for taking the photos?

*Questions are collected from Dear Travelers
