Cynthia L. Sutton, Ph.D. is a Professor of Sociology at Thiel College in Greenville, PA. Dr. Sutton teaches a number of sociology courses – Microsociology, Research Methods, Minorities, Aging, and Anthropology to name a few – but her primary areas of interest are sex/gender issues and the study of marriage & the family. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN and majored in Communication Arts and Sciences with a concentration in Theater Studies. She received her Master of Arts and Ph.D., both in the field of sociology, from the University of Notre Dame. Her Master’s thesis dealt with child abuse in American families and her dissertation topic was on the effects of adoption and the adoptive home on the health of children. Dr. Sutton has served on many faculty and college-wide committees and served two terms as the Chair of the Faculty. Her last sabbatical was spent studying the changing depictions of gender within the animated “princess” films of the Walt Disney Company. Dr. Sutton has traveled often to Canada, spent significant time in both Greece and England, and has been fortunate enough to visit Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and Iceland.
