Simone Torrey studied at the Umbra Institute in Perugia, Italy; where she took a Literature course and a creative writing course. Perugia is known as the melting pot for foreign students in Italy. Perugia is located about halfway between Florence and Rome in the region of Umbria.  Umbria is known as the "green heart of Italy" for its lush natural treasures and central location. Umbria is a large and diverse region - abundant with mountains and lakes, river valleys and agricultural fields - and is well-situated for those enticed by the local hilltop towns and scenic brilliance of Umbria and Tuscany. Literature and the Arts was a course designed to enhance the student's understanding and appreciation of the arts and literature. Creative Writing: Italy of my Imagination was a course designed to give her an experience to write while experiencing Italy first hand. Simone took weekend trips to Rome and Florence. She also visited an island located in the middle of Lake Trasimeno where less than twenty people live. In the future Simone plans to visit other countries, in hopes of one day teaching English in a foreign place.
